Although we all prefer to go off the grid when on holiday, there are times when we need some useful information and our smartphone is usually the first place we look. That’s why we have selected a few applications which we think will make your Santorini experience even more delightful, plus some really savvy apps to use should you have the chance to visit Athens.

To travel to Machu Picchu you must first fly to Cuzco airport.

You can go from Cuzco to Machu Picchu in three different ways:

By Train

You have two options to go from Cuzco to Machu Picchu by train:

Go from Cuzco to Machu Picchu in one day: you leave Cuzco on the train that leaves at 3 or 4 in the morning and arrive in the town of Aguas Calientes, located at the foot of Machu Picchu, in the morning. From Aguas Calientes you can go up to Machu Picchu on foot or by bus. Then you return to Cuzco in the same way.

Going from Cuzco to Machu Picchu in two days: you take the train from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes and spend the night there, and you can leave very early the next day to the ruins of Machu Picchu. After the visit, you can take the train back to Ollantaytambo and, after visiting the site, continue by bus to Cuzco.

Both options are priced at 200 USD or 300 USD.

Bus

To go from Cuzco to Aguas Calientes you can take the bus that leaves you at the stop called Hidroeléctrica (last stop before reaching Aguas Calientes), via Santa Maria.

From here you have a good 3 hour walk, having as companions the train tracks and the waters of the river, to Aguas Calientes. Spend the night in the village and visit Machu Picchu the next day. This option is somewhat cheaper than the train (150-200 USD), but the truth is that the bus ride, which runs on bad roads in many sections, will test your heart.

Next I will explain the different trekking options you will find to get to Machu Picchu.
